Jamie Carragher and Arsenal Fan TV’s Ty were involved in a heated debate ahead of the new season as they clashed over the Gunners’ decisions in the transfer market
Jamie Carragher was involved in a heated debate with Arsenal Fan TV contributor Ty over the club’s transfer strategy.
The Gunners endured a miserable campaign last time out, missing out on European football under Mikel Arteta.
Their summer additions failed to impress forcing Arsenal back into the market to sign the likes of Ben White.
Last summer Arteta added Willian after his release from Chelsea, 12 months after his predecessor Unai Emery had signed David Luiz.
Both players were into their 30s and Carragher struggles to comprehend why those additions were made.
Gary Neville also claimed the Gunners wouldn’t be able to challenge whilst Carragher said he “feared” for the north Londoners.

Jamie Carragher took issue with Arsenal’s transfer policy
“I would disagree with that,” TY responded on the Overlap.
“I’m going to defend the team. All of a sudden now, we are nobodies. Manchester United haven’t always been at the top. Neither have Liverpool. Let’s just get this straight. We’ve never been relegated. But why, all of a sudden, are we classed as nobodies?”
Carragher questioned Arsenal’s strategy in the transfer window: “You are bringing David Luiz in. You are bringing Willian in. I can’t get behind that. It’s wrong.”
But Ty hit back saying: “Everyone makes mistakes – are we not allowed to make mistakes?”

AFTV’s Ty was quick to defend his team
“Of course you’re allowed to make mistakes, but make the right mistakes,” Carragher responded.
“Why are you buying rejects from Chelsea who are over 30? And then giving them big deals and you can’t get rid of them? That’s a mistake before it’s happened. That’s just stupid.”
He continued: “It is stupid! David Luiz has just gone for nothing, Willian will go for nothing.
“They took a load of dough out of your club and you’re left with nothing.”
Ty then hit back asking if Carragher was now the club’s sporting director.
Carragher replied:”I wouldn’t have bought Willian! And I wouldn’t have bought Luiz! They are Chelsea rejects aren’t they, they got the best out of them and then went ‘ Arsenal will have them.”
Arteta himself gave his own assessment of the club’s transfer business ahead of their season opener away at newly promoted Brentford.
He said: “I think we’ve done a few things that we wanted to do that are going to help us to get the squad in a much better place.
“There’s still a window to go so I’m sure things will happen either way [in and out].
“I’m willing to work with the players I have at the moment and to get the best out of them. We’ll see what we can do.”
